While we’re seeing what democracy looks like in the streets – we’re seeing democratic failure looks like on Capitol Hill. The Gang of 12 – the so-called “SuperCommittee” – announced today that it has failed in trying to come up with a compromise to find $1.2 trillion in budget savings.

Republicans continue to insist on protecting tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, preventing Congress from reaching an agreement to further reduce our deficit. 


With a special deficit-reduction supercommittee floundering, the top Republican in Congress warned Thursday that he won’t permit savings from winding down the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to pay for President Barack Obama’s jobs spending agenda. \
